Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are often used to improve the aesthetic appearance of teeth.  They are thin shells of porcelain that are bonded (attached) to the front of the teeth, providing a natural, attractive look. The best way to describe them would be that they resemble a false fingernail.  Dental veneers can be used to fix broken, chipped, stained, misaligned, worn down, uneven or abnormally spaced teeth.

What Types of Dental Veneers are there, and what is the procedure?

Dental veneers can either be made in a laboratory and are porcelain, or fabricated by your dentist using a composite resin material.  If your dentist recommends porcelain veneers, two appointments will be required.

At the first appointment, your tooth will be prepared (shaved down a little) then an impression will be taken and sent off to the dental laboratory.  Once the veneers are ready, they are bonded to the teeth with resin cement.

If your dentist recommends composite resin veneers, these are generally done in one appointment.  Both procedures from the patient’s perspective feel very much like having a normal filling done.  Veneers are a great way to achieve a beautiful smile!
